National Artist, Dorothy Allen resides in Las Vegas, Nevada, where she has lived quietly in both Las Vegas and North Las Vegas since 1942. Allen is known for her “Too Blessed to be Stressed” characters. Allen is still creating, drawing and painting new characters.
Now a senior she never looked at painting or being an artist as a career, she simply enjoys sketching and painting. She can be described as sweet, quiet, very spiritual, calm spirited, funny and extremely artistic; all of these additives are a part of her artwork. Allen loves to create, most days you will find her lying across her bed sketching and painting. Even at local restaurants or at church she can be seen sketching her next character; that simple sketch will soon turn into a beautiful, positive humorous painting. To her painting is not ‘working’, it is relaxing and enjoyable.
Allen’s fanciful ideas of life are portrayed in her paintings of everyday life through life like caricatures with purpose and meaning. She draws on past experiences, current friends and acquaintances as models for her settings. The three come together consistently to create characters that make you think and smile.
